9/10 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration

Location: Downtown Plattsburgh, NY 12901
The Battle of Plattsburgh, also known as the Battle of Lake Champlain, ended the final invasion of the northern states during the War of 1812.  Join us as we commemorate the Bicentennial of General Alexander Macomb’s and Master Commandant Thomas MacDonough’s defeat of the British army on September 11, 1814.  The commemoration weekend runs from September 7-10 with tours, concerts, reenactments, fireworks, entertainment, parades and much more for the whole family to enjoy! 9/10 A Historical Scavenger Hunt

Location: Old Oval Base, Plattsburgh, NY 12901
Start Time: 10:00:00 AM - End Time: 3:00:00 PM Explore Adirondack Coast history and win prizes when you participate in a Historical Scavenger Hunt sponsored by the Clinton County Historical Association and Plattsburgh Noon Kiwanis Club! Visit the museums by the Oval, investigate the Oval’s historic markers and learn a little more about the history of the Old Base. Each child (and those young at heart) will receive a small prize for participating and at the end of the day five lucky names will be drawn for a larger prize. This event is free to all participants.  The Hunt starts with registration at the Kiwanis booth on the Oval and runs until 3 pm. Fore more information, visit clintoncountyhistorical.org.

9/10 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration: The Rooster Relay

Location: Macdonough Monument, 42 City Hall Pl, Plattsburgh, NY 12901
Start Time: 7:00:00 AM - End Time: 8:30:00 AM Teams of 2-6 runners will run approximately 1.20 mile route beginning and ending at the base of the Macdonough Monument. Teams participating will try to get as many of the course ‘loops’ completed between 7a.m.-10a.m. The race will head up the hill from the bandshell below the Macdonough Monument to take a trip down City Hall Place, left onto Bridge Street, left onto Green Street to take Heritage Trail to Dock Street and back to the Macdonough Monument. The ever popular guides from the Chateau Ramezay Museum in Montreal will be dressed in period attire and provide interactive demonstrations on a variety of skills including weaving and writing with a quill pen. 9/10 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration: Police Pipes & Drums of Plattsburgh

Start Time: 10:00:00 AM - End Time: 10:30:00 AM Wearing their Black Watch kilts, the Police Pipes & Drums of Plattsburgh, NY, has been entertaining fans throughout the Adirondack Coast for over six years. 9/10 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration: 1814 Grand Encampment

Location: Kent-Delord House Museum, 17 Cumberland Ave, Plattsburgh, NY 12901
Start Time: 10:00:00 AM - End Time: 3:00:00 PM Upwards of 150 reenactors from the US & Canada are expected to descend on Plattsburgh and encamp on the Kent-Delord House Museum grounds for the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Weekend! 9/10 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration: Reenactment: Defense of Bridge Street

Location: Bridge Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901

9/10 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration: Saratoga Replica Demonstration

Location: Samuel De Champlain Monument, Cumberland Ave., Plattsburgh, NY 12901
Start Time: 11:00:00 AM - End Time: 12:00:00 PM Commodore Macdonough’s flagship, the 144 ft.-long Saratoga, is represented by a 1/12 scale working model built by Tom LaMar. In addition to rudder and sail controls, the 17-ft. replica features a 250-watt sound system and 26 functional black powder firing cannons as well as a concealed motor (propeller) drive, a bow thruster to simulate the 180-degree kedge maneuver that brought to bear the fresh broadside of cannons which greatly helped win the Battle of Plattsburgh. For more information visit the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration website.

9/10 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration: Reenactment: The Battle of Plattsburgh Bay

Location: Samuel De Champlain Monument, Cumberland Ave., Plattsburgh, NY 12901
Start Time: 1:30:00 PM - End Time: 2:30:00 PM 1814 Naval Engagement on Lake Champlain, viewable from the Champlain Monument with Plattsburgh Bay and Cumberland Head as a back drop, for the first time the total re-enactment will take place on the lake. It will include large sailing ships as well as many smaller bateaux. Former City Historian John Krueger will narrate the military and naval details of the battle, as re-enactors demonstrate how the battle of Plattsburgh was fought.
