Local Angler Hooked on Lake Champlain
With the summer season on its way sixteen year old local, Perry Marvin of Peru, NY, is getting prepared to take to Lake Champlain. Marvin, originally from Florida, began fishing at the age of four but it wasn’t until he moved to the Adirondack Coast that he started fishing competitively. Since 2012 Marvin has competed in over ten tournaments throughout the U.S., during this time he has earned numerous 1st place finishes and has received awards including the 2014 TBF Junior World Championship Trophy, Title of 2014 TBF Junior World Champion, 2014 NYS TBF Qualifier, 2014 NYS SAF State Team.
This season Marvin plans on participating in over 10 tournaments including Northern Bass Angler and the SAF NYS Championship Tournament, with hopes of advancing to the SAF Regional Tournament later this year. Marvin will take his career one step further this year by also participating in divisions of the FLW Tournament Series including the adult TBF Tournaments for the Northern Region as a boater and Northern Region Rayovac Tournaments as a co-angler.
“Since winning the 2014 Junior World Championship, I have been asked to speak at several fishing related events. I was invited to speak at the Northern TBF Divisional Championship Tournament in Clayton, New York, I spoke at the Plattsburgh State open enrollment event for their fishing team, and most recently, I spoke at the GOB Junior Bassmaster’s Annual Banquet. I enjoy public speaking because it provides me with an opportunity to share my experiences with others as well as talk about my favorite techniques.” Stated Perry Marvin.
Along with speaking appearances, Marvin also enjoys volunteering throughout the community. “This summer I volunteered at Meadowbrook Healthcare where I had an opportunity to help several of their residents’ fish off Wilcox Dock. Everyone caught fish that day and it was very rewarding to be a part of the event. I volunteered my time as a boat captain during the Regional Collegiate Tournament in Ticonderoga, and also volunteered at this year’s TBF Youth Qualifier Tournament in Schroon Lake. It’s important to me to give back to the organization that has given so much to me. I enjoy helping people of all ages catch fish.”
Catch Marvin start the season off on Lake Champlain in the FLW Rayovic Series July 30-August 1.
