Summer on the Lake Educational Boat Trips

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your selected time. Participants must be a minimum of 8 years old to attend.

Lake Champlain Sea Grant and University of Vermont (UVM) Extension are offering public trips aboard the research vessel Marcelle Melosira! Attendees will participate in hands-on activities to learn about Lake Champlain, its watershed, and human impacts. Cost: $30 per person. Minimum age to participate is 8 years old. Lake Champlain Live will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about and try their hands as limnologists (i.e., those who study inland waters). Following an interactive introduction to the geology and formation of the Lake Champlain basin and the lake, participants will learn about biological, chemical, and physical measurements limnologists make to improve our understanding of the lake, its watershed, and our impacts on them.

Participants will engage in such activities as:

  1. Towing for plankton & identifying plankton
  2. Assessing for invasive species
  3. Using and interpreting a conductivity-temperature-depth meter
  4. Monitoring water clarity
